As a new Walking Leader, you may be tempted to feel intimidated when going out and talking to people outside your department for the first time. Don't be fooled by the "new-ness" of the entire situation but instead embrace it and use it as motivation to extend your hand the first time.
Embrace the new-ness?
Yes, it is in that new that one can go out and extend the hand of greeting and friendship without feeling like the eyes of the organization are on you. That is what makes the entire process of the Walking Leader so special. You are out there getting to know what the heck is going on and meeting the people who are making it all possible.
Remember, in war it is the Infantryman that is on the ground fighting the battle but it is the cook that feeds the Infantryman, it is the Medic that patches him up, it is the finance clerk that gives him a pay check, and so on. What I am saying is that no matter what those on the front-lines can fight the battle but can NOT win the war without the complete support of all the services the organization brings to the fight.
To know how you, your team, your department can properly support those in the other departments within the company you have to get out there, shake their hand and say Hello. No matter what do not feel intimidated or scared but instead take advantage of the situation and be the leader by taking that first step and the rest will follow.
