Self Leadership – Making The Jump From Amateur to Professional - Introduction

Welcome to Episode 252 of the Walking Leader Podcast with your host David G. Guerra.

In episode 252, David introduces listeners to his 2023 SELF-LEADERSHIP initiative: MAKING THE JUMP FROM AMATEUR TO PROFESSIONAL.

In this new series, David shares with you his take on making the move from an Amateur Mindset individual to a Professional Mindset Individual.

There comes a time in everyone's life when they say enough is enough and know that the only way to keep the past where it belongs (in the past) is to make a major mindset change. To elevate themselves to a higher level of being, existing, and most of all, living and that is to push through a necessary change in their life.

By beginning to recognize change in vocation, location, or need must be made, then the transition from an Amateur to a Professional becomes part of our lives. This series is based on my observations and some of my life experiences that drive the change from Amateur to Professional.

Please note, that we are going to take most of 2023 to complete this series. However, by the end I do hope you will see the value on making the change but also in knowing that the process, from beginning to end will involve lots and lots of hard work. When it comes to work either you are willing to put in all it takes or you are perfectly happy staying right where you are. If you are happy being stagnant then this podcast series is not for you.

However, when enough is enough then and only then are you ready to proceed with not only changing your mindset but your personal and professional life, as well.

Thus, David asks, "Are you ready to put in the work to make the much needed change in your life?" If the answer is YES, then let's use 2023 as the time to take that journey to move beyond and up.

While on your journey do not forget to CREATE WIN-WIN situations in all that you do. Start Strong! Stay Strong! Finish Strong! Be Strong!

And as always, I remind you to GO BEYOND THE GRIND and GO BEYOND THE HUSTLE BECAUSE THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE THE WALKING LEADER AND A LEADER THAT IS GREAT TO FOLLOW.

I invite you to take about 15 minutes and listen to the Episode 252 of the Walking Leader Podcast. Enjoy!

SELF-LEADERSHIP - SOFT SKILLS - Wrapping It Up

Welcome to Episode 250 of the Walking Leader Podcast with your host David G. Guerra.
In this episode, I wrap up our 2022 Self-Leadership series on Soft Skills.

SOFT SKILLS are defined as “interpersonal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people while performing those technical or hard skills you have learned.”

SOFT SKILLS are essential to the growth and development of all LEADERS. Current and Future Leaders that work to continually improve those soft skills are on the fast track to becoming GREAT LEADERS.

I say they will become GREAT LEADERS because they do not rest on their laurels. These future GREAT LEADERS keep moving forward, they keep improving and most of all, they keep growing.

In this episode, I recap the past episodes in this SOFT SKILL series and share my insights as to what prompted me to start this series.

Don't forget to CREATE WIN-WIN situations in all that you do. Start Strong! Stay Strong! Finish Strong! Be Strong!

And as always, I remind you to GO BEYOND THE GRIND & GO BEYOND THE HUSTLE BECAUSE THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE THE WALKING LEADER AND A LEADER THAT IS GREAT TO FOLLOW.

SELF-LEADERSHIP - SOFT SKILLS - LISTENING

Welcome to Episode 249 of the Walking Leader Podcast with your host David G. Guerra.
In this episode, I talk about the SOFT SKILL of LISTENING.

LISTENING is defined as “to pay attention to sound” or “to hear something with thoughtful attention: give consideration” or “to be alert to catch an expected sound”.

LISTENING is also, the greatest tool in the Soft Skills arsenal. Without it none of all the other soft skills would never get off the ground. Without having the ability to listen why bother becoming a leader. Seriously, if your plan is to put in just enough to get you by, there is truly no point in thinking you have it in you to lead others.

LISTENING is the foundation of any leadership development or leadership growth process. Thus, Listening is the foundation of the Walking Leader. It is all about getting out there, getting to know those you lead, and to connect with them because you are listening and paying attention.

SELF-LEADERSHIP - SOFT SKILLS - PROBLEM SOLVING

Welcome to Episode 248 of the Walking Leader Podcast with your host David G. Guerra.
In this episode, I talk about PROBLEM SOLVING.

When it comes PROBLEM SOLVING as a Soft Skill one thing is certain: Everyone needs to know what it takes to and how to problem solve. Problems come in all shapes and sizes. Some are small and easy to address, while others are long term and may require plenty of attention just to define what exactly is the problem. Once all that is made known, then can the process to resolve be defined and ultimately implemented.

PROBLEM SOLVING as a soft skill can be mastered. Mastery may require a lifetime of learning. However, the results will be more than you could imagine. The market for those that can effectively and efficiently solve problems is huge because like death and taxes are two other certainties. Problems will always be there, thus problem solvers will always be needed.

SELF-LEADERSHIP - SOFT SKILLS - CREATIVITY

Welcome to Episode 243 of the Walking Leader Podcast with your host David G. Guerra.
In this episode, I talk about the SOFT SKILL of CREATIVITY.

CREATIVITY is a according to a Wikipedia entry the "phenomenon whereby something new and valuable is formed. As a current and future leader, having creativity and the ability to express that creativity is a must have that can be learned, mastered with constant and consistent work on to improve upon."

However, take the following into consideration when it comes to acting on your creativity, please keep in mind that while you do your best the end result is always subject to the interpretation of others. Take the color red for instance, you use deep red, others may see the red as blood red or burgundy or some other shade of red and to them it is not what they asked for. Remember, it is subjective.

As a soft skill CREATIVITY can be mastered or not. Creativity is unique in that inherently you may be proficient in some forms of creativity and completely found lacking in others. No matter what it will become a very important skill to have not just as you are setting yourself up to lead others but to continue to lead, motivate and inspire others well into the future.

Along the way, don’t forget to CREATE WIN-WIN situations in all that you do. Start Strong! Stay Strong! Finish Strong! Be Strong!

SELF-LEADERSHIP & SOFT SKILLS - INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Episode 230 of the Walking Leader Podcast with your host David G. Guerra.

In this episode, David introduces his new podcast initiative for 2022. While still focusing on the individual's self-development when it comes to personal or self-leadership, David takes a deeper dive into the highly coveted and sought after soft skills.

As a current and future leader, you have no choice but to acquire, learn, and work with a wide variety of soft skills. The wide variety refers to the "cluster of productive personality traits that characterize one's relationships in a social environment. These skills can include social graces, communication abilities, language skills, personal habits, cognitive or emotional empathy, time management, teamwork and leadership traits. A definition based on review literature explains soft skills as an umbrella term for skills under three key functional elements: people skills, social skills, and personal career attributes."

This year we are going to tackle one soft skill at a time, one episode at a time. New for 2022, we are going to school with the Walking Leader podcast in that it will not only be voice/audio based but incorporating other content (audio, video, downloadables, etc.) on my website.

So, buckle up because it is going to be a great ride.

SELF-LEADERSHIP & SELF-EVALUATION by David Guerra - Walking Leader Podcast #229

Welcome to Episode 229 of the Walking Leader Podcast with your host David G. Guerra.
In this episode, I talk about SELF-LEADERSHIP and SELF-EVALUATION.

Happy New Year! Did you make a resolution? Did you set a new goal or want to accomplish a new mission? Or did you take time to self-evaluate?

As a current or future leader, taking and making time to self-evaluate is an essential function of a leader that not only cares about the people that follow that leader but the future leaders that leader will help create.

By taking the time to evaluate where that individual has been and where they are going will help make any changes that need to be made that much easier to happen. Staying on course comes easy when individuals are keeping an eye on the compass, the horizon and what’s behind them. It is when people put focus too much on one or the other that the journey goes off-course.

Through intentional self-evaluation the current or future leader will find themselves always adjusting course and ultimately achieving their goals or realizing their vision or accomplishing their mission.
